The female drummer02 June 2005
Why do women persevere with the drum?

There was Ringo, and Dave Clark and then, came Honey Lantree, a band named the Honeycombs and a record called Have I the Right. And then the female drummer seemed to disappear from view, apart from a slight blip with Karen Carpenter. But on Monday, the fifth album by the White Stripes is released, featuring Meg White on drums.

The female drummer is often still seen as a novelty or gimmick, so, why do women take up the instrument and persevere?
