Coping with Constipation in Childhood

Constipation in children accounts for a quarter of all referrals to child gastro-enterology units.

Despite being increasingly common among children, parents often feel isolated and unsupported as they cope with what is still seen as a taboo subject.

Left untreated or mismanaged, constipation can cause chronic problems and affect the child's family, school and social life.

Jenni talks to one mother whose young daughter suffered with constipation and to one of the women spearheading a nurse-led approach to tackling the condition.
