Sex workers9 March 2005
Jenni with sex workers in Accra
Sex workers in Accra organise themselves into safe communities

In her 80s and still working in the sex industry, Afua has decided she needs a new career.

At the Women's Awareness Centre in Accra she's now learning batik and tie-dye.

Money raised from Comic Relief is being used by the Centre to help sex workers with alternative employment.

The Centre also distributes condoms and gives health advice. In the last four year there's been a dramatic reduction in the number of sex workers with HIV/Aids and STDs, sexually transmitted diseases.

Jenni meets Afua and is invited to one of the sex workers' compounds to find out how the women work together to protect themselves.

Red Nose day 2005 is on Friday 11 March. To get involved visit www.rednoseday.com or telephone 08457 910 910 (local rate call charges apply)
