how does a mother's health affect her unborn child's?
Coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity and osteoporosis are just some of the diseases in modern society which are on the increase.
They are usually put down to genetic disposition or the result of an unhealthy lifestyle. But could they have a developmental origin in the womb? Could the kind of food a pregnant woman eats, and her overall health be causing an increase in diseases?
Jenni discusses the issues with Professor Mark Hanson, Director of the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease Centre at Southampton University and co-author of The Fetal Matrix, and Dr Ray Noble Senior Lecturer at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University College, London.
