Did Britain use torture in 1950s Kenya?

The Mau Mau revolt in 1950s Kenya conjures up images of bloodthirsty brutality. Until now, much of the blame for the conflict has fallen on the shoulders of the Kikuyu tribesmen who formed the Mau Mau movement.


But a controversial book out this month accuses the British authorities of widespread repression leading to the deaths of tens of thousands of detainees.
