a new treatment links migraine to a hole in the heart

There are almost 6 million people in the UK who have migraines, and women are three times more likely to suffer than men. As yet there is no cure and it isn't known what causes what is, for so many people, a severely debilitating illness.

A new study, the first trial of its kind, is looking into the possible link between migraines and a hole in the heart. If successful, it could be the most significant development in treatment for over a decade.

Jenni is joined by cardiologist Michael Mullen and Zoe Baxter, a migraine sufferer who is also involved in the Migraine Action Association.

People who experience severe migraine are invited to participate in a study. More information is available from Migraine Action Association, call 0870 050 5898 or MIST. There is with with no obligation to sign up to the study.
