Why the creator of Little Grey Rabbit is still so popular
Little Grey Rabbit, and Sam Pig are just two of the creations of author Alison Uttley; they have delighted millions of children and are still popular today. Born in Derbyshire in 1884, she liked to write about animals because she “thought they had a raw deal”.
You could be mistaken for thinking that the life of this prolific writer was as sweet as her books, but as Judy Merry discovered, Alison was a fiercely intelligent scientist, a passionate mother and wife, but could never have been described as sweet.
She spoke to Stella Butler at the John Rylands library and Denis Judd, her biographer to find out more about her life.
