The Serpent and the Moon24 November 2004
The Serpent and the Moon (cover detail)
HRH, Princess Michael of Kent talks about her life, and her latest book

King Henri II ordered his coronation robes to be embroidered with the symbols of the woman he loved: Diane de Poitiers. Tiny pearls depicted her bows, arrows, and the letter 'D' interlaced with 'H'. But he was married to another: Catherine de Medici. There were always three people in the marriage.

Her Royal Highness, Princess Michael of Kent joins Jenni to talk about her new book The Serpent and the Moon, a story of intrigue and scandal in Renaissance France, and how her own life has attracted controversy of a different kind.

The Serpent and the Moon: Two Rivals for the Love of a Renaissance King by HRH Princess Michael of Kent, Simon & Schuster, ISBN 0743251040

Portraits of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici
