Dame Gillian Weir19 November 2004
one of the foremost musicians in the world

Dame Gillian Weir is one of the highest achieving women in the world of music today. If her appearance at this year's Proms on the Royal Albert Hall's newly-restored organ is anything to go by, she is also one of Britain's most popular artists.

In the predominantly male world of international organ virtuosi, she has achieved legendary status. On 16 November she played at Bath Abbey, just one of the hundreds of performances she has given this year alone. Recently she performed on a brand new organ at the church of St Mary Magdalen in Oxford.

Eka Morgan went to meet the organ builder Matthew Copley and Dame Gillian in rehearsal.

Dame Gillian will be performing at Birmingham Symphony Hall on 29 November.

Dame Gillian Weir, DBE
