Women have always played an important role in horse racing and are now involved in all aspects of the sport from trainers to jockeys, owners and race goers.

But, as this season of flat racing draws to a close on Saturday, Woman's Hour asks if Horse racing is still a male dominated sport at the top levels, and why women choose to get involved.

Jill Hopkins went to York Races on Ladies day. She began by asking women from the Scarborough Yacht club what they enjoyed most about visiting the races . .
