How her own home inspired her latest book, Blackbird House

The American writer Alice Hoffman, author of Practical Magic andThe Probable Future, talks about her latest work of fiction, Blackbird House.

It's the story of a house in coastal Massachusetts, surrounded by sweet peas but also drowned in sorrow stemming from the death of one of its first inhabitants, a ten-year-old boy and is based on the house in which she now lives.

Alice talks to Jenni about the mingling of the real and the supernatural, about grief, redemption, and joy.

Alice Hoffman's The Blackbird House is published by Chatto and Windus, ISBN: 0701175133
