The Catholic Church on women in society6 August 2004
What does it mean for women worldwide?

Last weekend the Vatican published a Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Collaboration of Men and Women in the Church and the world.

Much has been made in the Western press about the conservative contents of this document with its references to women's qualities as those of 'listening, welcoming, humility, faithfulness, praise and waiting.'

Can there ever be a global message for women and what impact will it have in countries like Latin America, Asia and Africa, where the Catholic faith is strong? Martha talks to Catherine Pepinster, Editor of The Tablet and Catherine Scott from the Catholic Institute for International Relations.
