Battery Hens Rescue2 July 2004
Have you ever thought of adopting... a hen?

Jane Howarth used to work for a magazine until she upped sticks and moved to Devon to rescue battery hens. After 52 weeks in the battery cages, the hens are sent for slaughter, but with a bit of care, poorly hens can be nursed back to health and become wonderful pets.

Jane intends her project to become a national scheme, and she recently got support from Prince Charles who wrote in praise of her efforts.

Reporter Rachel Ellison went to Chumleigh in Devon to watch the rescue.
