Fathers in art18 June 2004

How have artists chosen to represent fathers through the years?

Some artists choose to put their complex relationship with their father in the foreground, while others celebrate the unsung achievements of their ordinary lives. And some, like the Victorian artist W F Yeames (pictured), choose to represent the father's absence.

As Father's Day approaches, Martha talks to Times art critic Rachel Campbell-Johnston and artist Eugene Palmer about the various artistic representations of fatherhood.
