How a new and less invasive procedure could help breast cancer sufferers
Every year 40,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. Treatment usually involves a combination of surgery to remove the lump, with radiotherapy and or chemotherapy.
Now a group of surgeons are trialing a new, much less invasive procedure called Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy. The technique is already standard practise in other countries. Here in Britain, 1,600 women are taking part in a trial and early results from trial are looking good.
The results will be announced on Saturday 5 June at the International Cancer Congress, New Orleans
