The cellist who enthralled the nation with her nightingale duet
She was the woman who captured the imagination of Elgar with her peerless cello interpretations and enthralled the entire nation with rather an unusual kind of duet – one not performed with other musicians but with a nightingale. We find out tomorrow why she persuaded the BBC in 1924 to do the first live broadcast of birdsong from her garden.
Jenni is joined by Patricia Cleveland Peck the author of a new play, The Cello and The Nightingale which has just received its premiere in York, and the actress Brigit Forsyth, who plays Beatrice Harrison.
