Your child's marital difficulties26 Apr 2004

Grandparents have a huge investment in marriages where there are grandchildren.

If the marriage ends, what role do they have in sorting things out?

As the Beckham's marriage goes through a rocky patch, Victoria's mother is reportedly furious with her son-in-law for humiliating her daughter. So how does a family cope when their troubles are made so public?

And how should grandparents deal with an acrimonious end to their child's marriage - especially if they fear they may lose touch with their grandchildren? Should they get involved or keep quiet?

Jenni asks Denise Knowles, a family counsellor with Relate and Shelly Marsden who is married to the Liberal Democrate MP Paul Marsden whose affair was in the head lines last November, how to deal with your child's marital difficulties.
