Tribute to Estee Lauder26 Apr 2004
'There are no ugly women. Only women who don't believe they're attractive'.

Such was the view of cosmetics multimillionaire Estee Lauder who has died aged 97.

Famed for her 'little jars of hope', Estee Lauder left a company which accounts for half the sales of cosmetics and perfumes in American department stores. Lindy Woodhead, author of War Paint, a biography of Helena Rubenstein and Elizabeth Arden explains Estee Lauder's immense impact on the cosmetic industry - and women's lives.

War Paint by Lindy Woodhead will be avilable from Virago Press from 28 May, ISBN 1844080498
