Monica Young18 Mar 2004
Ten years ago, Monica Young was struggling to scratch out a living as a potter in the Yorkshire Dales.

Now her giant coiled pots are snapped up as quickly as she can make them and last year she won the gold medal at the International Craft Exhibition in Munich.

They’ve become collectors items which sell for thousands of pounds. They’re displayed in Embassies across the world from Tokyo to New York. But success has come late for Monica – she was born in France 73 years ago.

Jill Hopkins went to meet her at her studio in Reeth, North Yorkshire.
