When Black Became Beautiful08 Mar 2004
Image: BBC TWO's When Black Became Beautiful
As a new series on black women and beauty begins on BBC Two celebrating the gains that have been made, Woman's Hour takes a look at both the history and the present-day images of black beauty.

Are there still only certain looks that are acceptable? And in a world where it's rare for a black woman to feature on the cover of a major fashion magazine, how far is there still to go?

Jenni discusses the issues with Chantal Benjamin, consultant on 'When Black Became Beautiful' and Hannah Pool columnist for The Guardian.

'When Black Became Beautiful' begins on BBC Two on Sunday 14 March 2004
