Shirley Thompson02 Mar 2004
In her latest work, New Nation Rising, composer Shirley Thompson was commissioned by her local council, and created a sound picture of life in East London - from the marshlands of 1000 years ago, to the urban, diverse place it is today.

Shirley Thompson joins Jenni to explain why she loves combining history and music and how she is winning over people not used to classical music.

'New Nation Rising' is available on CD, details can be found from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
