Sexual violence against Kurdish women16 January 2004
Image: Kurdish women in Turkey
As Turkey works on its human rights record in order to be accepted into the European Union, a new report alleges that the use of sexual violence against Kurdish women by the security forces is commonplace.

It's feared that reaction to the terrorist bombings in Istanbul in November is further undermining human rights, and that Kurdish women in particular are the 'soft targets' of Turkey's 'war on terrorism'.

Martha discusses the issues with Margaret Owen, author of the report and a human rights lawyer, Baroness Sarah Ludford MEP and Seffi Tashen from the Foreign Police Institute in Turkey.
