Recently we discussed whether the stigma attached to being a single mother has disappeared.

Kate Green of the National Council for One Parent Families felt that while much remained to be done, attitudes have indeed softened. Robert Whelan of the Think Tank Civitas agreed that our approach to lone mothers has relaxed, but in his view this is a disaster as it was society's disapproval that stopped women bringing up babies alone.
Some of you wrote to applaud his views but many of you were outraged.
