Christabel BielenbergTuesday 4 November 2003
Regarded as an icon of English pluck and bravery, Christabel Bielenberg will be buried in Ireland tomorrow.

She was part of the July 1944 plot to assassinate Hitler and challenged the Gestapo to secure the release of her German husband Peter who was imprisoned at Ravensbruck for his part in the plot.
Her memoir of that time, The Past is Myself is a bestseller, and in 1988, Elizabeth Hurley starred in Christabel, a television series of her book.
In 1988, Jenni interviewed Christabel, and there's another chance to hear their conversation again today. Jenni also talks to Elke Acherley, who was just a girl when she first met Christabel, and whose parents, like the Bielenbergs, were involved in the 1944 plot to assassinate Hitler.
The Past Is Myself is published by Corgi Adult, ISBN 0552990655
