Why Are We So Afraid of Single Women?Tuesday 4 November 2003
Condoleezza Rice, a major power in the US, is widely acknowledged to have been one of the driving forces behind George W Bush's war plans.

But that hasn't stopped the press focusing on the fact that she's single. It's even been said that she might be less inclined to share the administration's enthusiasm for war if she had a boyfriend. So, where does this unease about singleness originate from?
Amanda Platell, Former Head of Media and News for the Conservative party and Helen Wilkinson of the think-tank Demos, and founder of Gender Quake, which researches the changing roles of men and women, join Jenni to discuss why society is still so threatened by single women

Washington Post - Profile of Condoleezza Rice
