It's become a byword for freedom and escape to the open road. Immortalised in the 60s cult movie Easy Rider, the Harley Davidson is a quintessentially macho machine.

This weekend marks huge celebrations in Milwaukee in the USA, to commemorate the production of the first Harley, built in a shed by two friends.
But, over the past decade sales of Harleys to women have increased five fold. Cher has one, as do Goldie Hawn, Brigitte Bardot and Chris Chaplin - a biker from Stretford in Manchester.
