Kenyan author Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor is this year's winner of the Caine Prize for Literature - the most prestigious award for writing in Africa.
Her winning short story Weight of Whispers, narrated by a male aristocratic Rwandan refugee in the aftermath of the 1994 massacres, was singled out by the judges for the "subtle and suggestive way it dramatises the condition of the refugee and also successfully incorporates so many large issues". It's the second year in a row that a Kenyan has won the award, and has been heralded as an extraordinary boost to black female writers in Africa.
