Liverpool women have traditionally been thought of as particularly resourceful, perhaps a consequence of having to cope with life in a port, where the men were often absent for long periods of time.
To make ends meet generations of women have sold fruit, vegetables and other goods from barrows on the city's pavement.
Judy Merry went to meet members of the Liverpool Women's History group to find out more about their experiences.
