Scottish DiasporaThursday 5 June 2003
In the 19th century two million Scots left for a new life in America, Canada, or Australia.

Tens of thousands of those emigrants were orphaned or abused children who were being sent abroad without, as one observer chillingly described, family responsibilities to handicap them.
Historian Marjory Harper, author of Adventurers and Exiles, joins Jenni to talk about the effects this Scottish Diaspora has had on the rest of the world.
'Adventurers and Exiles' by Marjory Harper is published by Profile Books; ISBN: 186 197 304-7.
