Forty years ago, the writer Sylvia Plath put food out for her children and then killed herself. Since then her inner life, as well as her relationship with poet husband Ted Hughes seems to have been endlessly chronicled.
This week sees the publication of another book on her life - this time a novel. Wintering is billed as the "story of a woman struggling to absorb the pain of her husband's betrayal and to resist her mother's engulfing love". The author, Kate Moses, joins Jenni to talk about why she felt the need to fictionalise Plath's life. 'Wintering' written by Kate Moses, was published 17 Feb 03 by Sceptre, ISBN: 0340 8188 75
