Amy BeachTuesday 8 October 2002
Tonight at St John's, Smith Square in London, the Ambache Chamber Orchestra begins a series of concerts "Old Masters, New Mistresses", featuring works by American women composers of the early 20th century. Diana Ambache, the pianist and musical director of the orchestra will be introducing some of them to Claudia Hammond over the coming weeks.

Today it's Amy Beach. Ironically she only turned to composition because her husband wasn't keen on her career as a concert pianist.
