A S ByattMonday 13 May 2002
This September, Booker Prize winning novelist A S Byatt is to publish a new novel, A Whistling Woman. This is the fourth in a series of novels which tackles the great themes of the twentieth century through the life of its heroine, Frederica Potter.

The Virgin in the Garden, Still Life, Babel Tower, and A Whistling Woman are collectively known as The Frederica Quartet. Next week sees the beginning of their dramatisation for Radio 4 as part of the Woman's Hour serial.
A S Byatt tells Jenni what lessons women can learn from Frederica's life.
