Hush Little Baby, Bye Baby Bunting, Rock-a-by Baby - most of us don't sing very often, but one time we do is when we find ourselves with a baby or small child who won't sleep.
Lullabies are often the first songs we remember from childhood, and they provide a powerful link to our mothers and grandmothers and to our cultural roots. The Radio 3 Website has just launched a project called World on Your Street. It's a celebration of all the different musical traditions to be found here in Britain - not just professional musicians, but songs people sing at home with their family and friends. Kim Normanton spoke to Pramila Johan, Sayida Mahmood, and Aisha Yahya to hear about the lullabies they sing.
