Elizabeth I insisted that Nicholas Hilliard, her favourite artist, leave her pock marks out when he painted her. Lord Byron always made sure his club foot didn't show, and Churchill once had a portrait thrown on the bonfire because he thought it made him look half-witted.

The art of the portrait painter is a delicate one - just how do you keep your subject happy, whilst trying to paint an honest portrait. Jenni talks to portrait painter June Mendoza about the tricks of her trade.
