The British presence amongst the ranks of Winter Olympic Gold contenders in Salt Lake City isn't exactly overwhelming. Not even on the ice, where we have been known to shine in the past. But at amateur level, the enthusiasm in some unexpected quarters knows no bounds.

Undeterred by the physical demands and the potential bumps, bruises and breaks, more and more, 50+ women are getting their skates on.
Philippa Budgen goes to London's Alexandra Palace to meet some of the late starters
