Is selfishness underrated?Monday 24 December 2001
Christmas is supposed to be the season to be merry, but it also has the reputation of the season for family arguments.

With this in mind, there's always a temptation to do your own thing - just pack your bags and fly off to Barbados for a week all by yourself.
So why don't we? Why does the dutiful daughter inevitably win out over the selfish slut in all of us and what could we do to release her if only a little bit?
Jenni discusses the issue with the writer Diana Appleyard, divorce lawyer Vanessa Lloyd Platt and comedian Helen Lederer.
We're on our Christmas holidays, so sorry but audio will not be available for individual items. Don't forget you can still hear the full programme by going to the Woman's Hour homepage or by going to the Listen Again page.
