Bowling has long been associated with grandparents with time on their hands in their retirement. Well, no longer, at least in the competitive world.
The younger generations are taking over. A twelve year old girl, Laura Tucker is about to enter the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest person to compete in a national final. To try and keep up with its younger members the game itself is undergoing something of a revolution. It's spruced up its image for television and next week (Dec 3-7th) the Scottish Masters in Glasgow will feature new rules on sudden death to speed up the game, with not an A-line skirt in sight. But not everyone is happy and the new generation of players could still face a backlash from the more traditional members. Philippa Budgen has been bowling in Teignbridge in Devon with some of today's rising bowling stars.
