Des O'ConnorThursday 1 November 2001
Des O'Connor has become a national institution as a comic, chat show host and singer.

Eric Morecambe once called him 'Def O'Connor' and to others he was called simply 'The Tan'.
But despite the jibes, to date he's sold 15 million records. He's got a new album out next week - a tribute to the great crooners - and has recently published his autobiography.
Banana's can't fly! by Des O'Connor (Headline, ISBN: 0747231931, £10.99).
Tribute to the Crooners (Decca Music Group Ltd/Universal Music TV, 470 470 2) will be released on November 5th.
