Sour cherriesWednesday 15 August 2001
Sweet cherries make the perfect Summer time eating.

But in days gone by the appeal of the sweet cherry paled in comparison to the sour variety which tended to cook much better and be preserved for the Winter.
In a look at forgotten summer fruit and veg, Anna McNamee met the cookery writer Sybil Kapoor at Turnips, a fresh produce supplier run by Fred Foster in London's Borough Market, and was shown how to make a sour cherry sorbet.
Read the recipe.
Turnips is at 43 Borough Market, London, SE1 9AH.
More recipes from Sybil Kapoor can be found in her book Simply British (Penguin Books, ISBN: 0140273190, £7.99).
