Gwen RaveratTuesday 7 August 2001
Gwen Raverat , the granddaughter of Charles Darwin, is best known for her childhood memoir Period Piece which has charmed readers since it was originally published in 1952.

Frances Spalding's new biography goes beyond the pages of this much loved book expanding on the Darwin clan, and introducing her fiercely passionate husband Jacques and the eclectic mix of artists, poets and intellectuals of their circle.
Gwen Raverat, Friends, Family & Affections (Harvill Press, ISBN: 1-86046-746-6, £30.00).
