It may seem as if Nigella and Jamie have the upper hand in supplying us with inspiration in the kitchen nowadays but for many of us, the recipes we fall back on time and time again are the ones that take us back to childhood, the ones that have been passed from mother to daughter down the family. But recipes from grandma are notoriously difficult to preserve in written form. Capturing 'a splash of this', and 'a sprinkling of that' can be a tall order, which is why a new website called 'What’s Cooking Grandma?' is making use of the latest digital technology, to capture grannies concocting their favourite dishes.
Caz Graham has been to Arnside in Cumbria to meet Ruth Nuttall as she cooked her lemon meringue pie for her grand daughter Laurie, and for the website’s creators, Chris Vanstone and Mick Charbonel.
