The next in our series looking at treasures from the British Museum. Louise Adamson talks to Dr Venetia Porter, Curator of Islamic and Contemporary Middle East Collections about a modern painting created in 1989 - 'The Hands of Fatima' by Laila Shawa. The Museum has a policy of continuing to acquire contemporary works, and this piece came to them when they held an exhibition of art from the Middle East last year. It’s not on display at the moment.
