Woman's Hour devotes October to the most common cancer in the UK.
Nearly 44,000 women and just over 300 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
The chances of surviving the disease have improved enormously in recent years - thanks to better detection and treatments, but still more than 12,500 people die each year from the disease.
During October, Woman's Hour looks at all aspects of the disease, from the symptoms and the diagnosis to the treatment and emotional impact of living with it.
