Art in schools14 Feb 2007
In the late 1940’s school rooms could be pretty drab places. So what could be a better idea than to ask the great artists of the time to create colourful prints to be sold cheaply, by subscription, to schools? Brenda Rawnsley built up School Prints Limited immediately after the war. Although it didn’t run for long she did persuade, among others, Picasso, Henry Moore and Matisse, to take part. Now the prints are on show at the Pallant House Gallery in Chichester in Sussex, and a new book tells her remarkable story.
