 | | | | Letters from the Battle of Jutland | 16 Feb 2006 | | |
Two hundred and fifty ships were involved in the Battle of Jutland - the largest single fleet action ever fought.
It also produced one of the most controversial and frustrating outcomes of the First World War with both Germany and Britain claiming victory afterwards. Returning British sailors were hissed at in the streets by some members of the public.
Throughout the tumultuous summer of 1916 Commodore Charles Le Mesurier wrote home to his wife from out at sea. Jane Little is joined by their granddaughter Harriet Bachrach who reveals some of the fascinating details of their correspondence.
