The Queen turns 80 later this year and the plans for the formal celebrations are already well under way.
There’ll be a formal dinner hosted by Prince Charles followed by a family service of thanksgiving, and the Queen herself will host a children’s garden party at Buckingham Palace.
In the fifty three years of her reign, the defining image for many people of the current Queen is of her coronation on 2nd of June, 1953 in that magnificent dress, designed by the royal couturier Norman Hartnell. Since that day the dress has lain in a wooden box in Buckingham Palace, only rarely shown to the public.
But it was brought out for a special exhibition to celebrate the Golden Jubilee celebrations and first in the queue to see it was Eliane Glaser, accompanied by curator Christopher Lloyd, and conservationist Janet Wood.
