Medieval and contemporary music composer and performer
Stevie Wishart is a composer, performer and improviser who explores medieval and contemporary extremes in her music. She has studied medieval performance techniques and ancient instruments such as the hurdy gurdy, and composes for early music ensembles including her own group Sinfonye. She often combines this with electronic sounds and computer music systems to create electrifying contemporary performances. She talks to Jenni about her cutting edge music, and performs on the hurdy gurdy live in studio.
Stevie Wishart is taking part in ‘Take the Risk: A Weekend of Early Improvisation’ at the Purcell Room, Southbank Centre, London, 2–4 October
