Elizabeth Watts is a rising star in the world of opera and one of today’s most talked about young sopranos. She started singing as a chorister at Norwich Cathedral, and after graduating from university won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music Benjamin Britten International Opera School. Since then the awards and accolades have rolled in, including the prestigious 2006 Kathleen Ferrier Prize and the Rosenblatt Song Prize at the 2007 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Her debut album of Schubert’s Lieder got rave reviews in which the critics praised her 'supreme communicative gifts', and an 'artistry and vocal control well beyond her age'. Ahead of tonight’s Proms performance of Haydn's 'The Seven Last Words from the Cross', she talks to Jane about her route to success and the demands of a performing career.
