Olive Christopher – Churchill's Secretary19 Sept 2007
The Secretary to Churchill’s Chief of Staff remembers the war, top secret conferences and her courting days

In 1943, a young woman named Olive Christopher was invited for interview by General Hollis, Secretary to Churchill’s Chief of Staff. She was offered the job as his personal assistant, and for two years worked in the Cabinet War Rooms, one of only eight civilian secretaries employed in the underground bunker opposite St. James’s Park. As well as working in top secret conditions in London, she was required to attend several key conferences abroad, and witnessed history being made. Throughout this time, Olive was conducting a courtship with Major Neil Margerison, and wrote many letters to him. These letters now form the basis of a new book, written by Joanna Moody, which tell Olive’s war-time story. Felicity Finch meets Olive at her home near Portsmouth.

'From Churchill’s War Rooms – Letters of a Secretary 1943-45' by Joanna Moody is published by Tempest Publishing Ltd, ISBN: 978-0-7524- 4074-3.
