Why didn't it turn out to be the weight loss wonder drug?

Ten years ago we thought leptin was to be a wonder drug. We were told "this is a major breakthrough in obesity research". The hormone leptin, which helps control the appetite and speed up metabolism, had been injected into fat mice and they got thinner. The better covered among us saw it as a quick and easy solution to the diet question. Sadly, it was not to be. In the first of a series, Claudia Hammond went to a park to meet Vivienne Parry, the author of The Truth About Hormones, and as her why the leptin situtation not as simple as it might seem.

The Truth About Hormones by Vivienne Parry is published by Atlantic Books, ISBN: 1843544288
